Welcome to the EcoinformaticsCollaboratory wiki site. This section of the site is an open collaboratory: you can change any page and create new ones. We provide this space to explore and define ideas, articles, web sites, projects…. Please be aware that anything can be viewed and changed by anyone authorized, and make copies of any text you want to keep. There is no way to protect content from view or change, and everything depends on the responsibility of the users (this approach has produced some amazing stuff, like the Wikipedia). Pages do remember their history of changes. Feel free to invite your colleagues to this space if you have a project that can use it.

Creating a page does not require using HTML. Wiki is an extremely simple text language that allows you to compose web pages using a simplified text input. When you edit a page, the language is summarized below the editor. You can edit the Sandbox to your heart’s content to practice and try things out.

In short:

  • To edit a page: click on the Edit Page link and follow the instructions. Please be honest about who you are if you make changes, and remember to define your profile so that people know who you are. See the TextFormattingRules for more information.
  • To create a page: type a new URL in your browser like this: http://ecoinformatics.uvm.edu/wiki/pmwiki.php/Mysection/Mypage. When a page appears, click on the ? after your page’s name. Edit and save your page and you will have created the Mysection section of the site and the Mypage page in it. You can edit the menu if you want to place either on the main menu, but be considerate when doing so. Everyone will see your changes.
  • Remember that any word with capitalized letters (e.g. WikiSandbox) is automatically interpreted as a potential wiki page. If it exist, a link is created; if not, a question mark is displayed that allows creating it. That’s all it takes to reference a page in the wiki, existing or potential.
  • You can do a lot more if you need to: attach files, images, create tables etc. Read the DocumentationIndex for that.

Use responsibly and have fun!
